electrical - Washing Machine Stator Wire Harness Melted - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
i have kenmore 40318900 front loader started giving le error(motor stall). bought display model 5 years ago. tub spins freely hand, started troubleshooting according tech manual found inside(quite convenient) , said stator bad due resistance being way out of spec. took stator out , 100% sure measured windings directly, , lo , behold fine, around 8 ohms each. figured in harness , sure enough 1 of wires had 1.2k ohms between stator pin , pwb connector. started following wire harness , found melted , burnt section.
while going through machine noticed 1 of 3 shock absorber missing mount pin. looked on laundry room , turned machine on it's side , found, no broken pieces. thought must've never been installed. washer has been pretty noisy , vibrates around on tile floor. hypothesis excess vibration may have frayed strands in wire , caused overheat due current flowing through lot less copper. fix should simple wire replacement, wanted opinions before power , risk fire. thoughts?
edit: ended cutting 4 inches out of blue , yellow wires , splicing/heat shrinking new wire butt connectors. found out 1/2" bolt fits shock mount pin missing , put 1 , nylon lock nut in. ran 1 load of laundry , seems well, monitor bit heat.
from limited see, tend agree. reason looks have had extremely high resistance point in wire. (it have been due abrasion) sign off on quality patch job. cut wire far enough clean non-damaged non-overheated conductor. make sure fix yellow @ same time. if machine doing lot of walking, make sure fix too. wrong.
