need to make my table design less "tippy" - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
hello, all. i'm designing dining room table, here mocked real size in 2x4s , plywood, prior final construction out of maple. table top 48" square, , base has outer dimensions of 24" x 24".
we're putting int corner bench arrangement, want avoid legs on corners, started out pedestal design, have moved sort of trestle.
my challnge inherent tippiness of design: lean down hard on edge, , thing tips. (see bottom right image) constraints: knee clearance means can't push trestle wider. maple vs pine make whole thing more massive, help. also, intend double thickness of legs, 1.5" 3". again, more wood = more mass.
any thoughts on design improvement?
thanks, dave
the inset edge of table legs in either direction way bigger needed. main clearance knee room, persons feet can move around object lot easier. if have 16" offset edge of table legs end, more room need although if practical, nice, table needs work. 12" number work start, on distance end of table , spread of legs, way have nice curve moving away knees are, if moved bottom of legs feet rest 6" vertical drop edge of table, should find improve tip resistance.
